Do you ever stop to really consider the idea that not everyone sees the world the same way you do? It’s so easy to think that your perception of things is reality. But, “in reality”, it is different for every, single person. This is the very reason why some people are able to rise above difficulties & others succumb to them…their circumstances may be the same, but their perceptions about their surroundings & themselves is different. They may start out in the same place, but their journey takes them on very different paths. This is because…
This might seem like a pretty bold statement…especially if you’re used to feeling like you have very little control over your life. Can you really change your world, just by changing your thoughts? And if so, then why aren’t more people living their ideal life? Here’s a few questions to ask yourself, to see what may be holding you back…
#1- Do you take time to consider the thoughts running through your head…or do you tend to live your life by default? Do you often feel like you’re just “going through the motions”?
#2 – Do you take responsibility for what you’ve created? Or do you find yourself blaming others? Do you have a “victim mentality”?
#3 – Are you a slave to your habits? Do you resort to doing what is comfortable…even if it brings undesirable results?
For your journaling challenge this week, take some time to really consider these questions & to write down your thoughts. You can’t change your thoughts if you never stop to think about them & the effect they are having on your life.
Today’s tool will reveal some pretty fascinating insights into where your thoughts are “helping” you & where they might be “hurting” you. I found this tool a couple years ago through a book club I was participating in. The man who created this tool is Dave Blanchard & he is the CEO of the Og Mandino group. (Side note: If you’ve spent much time in the world of personal development, than you’ll recognize Og’s name & know his story. For those of you who haven’t heard of him, I highly encourage you to go HERE to read a short biography & listen to him tell his story in his own words. He was a pretty fascinating man & the most widely read inspirational and self-help author in the world today.) Dave Blanchard has taken over Og’s work & brought it into the 21st century. One of the tools he has developed is called the “Intentional Creation Assessment”. This is an excerpt from his website about how it works:
The Assessment is a revolutionary and proprietary tool that employs the formal science of axiological mathematics. It goes below the surface of personality and attitude and measures with great accuracy how people think—their habits of thinking. It clearly identifies natural strengths, which are often under utilized, and unhealthy habits of thinking that often sabotage efforts.
I know that might sound complex, but it is an amazing tool to simply & accurately understand what is going on inside your thoughts. When I took the assessment & then looked at my results, I was amazed at how accurate they were for me personally. It also helped me to step back & realize (with gratitude) that what I thought was “reality” was really just a lot of bad “thought” habits running on replay. It gave me a starting point for what I needed to work on.
Once you take the assessment, I’d love to hear what you think! Later this week, we will talk about what you can do with those results to help you improve your life. Make sure you watch the video before you take the test. You can find the video & assessment HERE.
