“Change Your Thoughts, Change Your World” Summer Challenge 2015 – What Kind of World Are You Creating?

Do you ever stop to really consider the idea that not everyone sees the world the same way you do?  It’s so easy to think that your perception of things is reality. But, “in reality”, it is different for every, single person. This is the very reason why some people are able to rise above difficulties & others succumb to them…their circumstances may be the same, but their perceptions about their surroundings & themselves is different. They may start out in the same place, but their journey takes them on very different paths. This is because…

This might seem like a pretty bold statement…especially if you’re used to feeling like you have very little control over your life. Can you really change your world, just by changing your thoughts? And if so, then why aren’t more people living their ideal life? Here’s a few questions to ask yourself, to see what may be holding you back…

#1- Do you take time to consider the thoughts running through your head…or do you tend to live your life by default?  Do you often feel like you’re just “going through the motions”?

#2 – Do you take responsibility for what you’ve created?  Or do you find yourself blaming others?  Do you have a “victim mentality”?

#3 – Are you a slave to your habits?  Do you resort to doing what is comfortable…even if it brings undesirable results?

For your journaling challenge this week, take some time to really consider these questions & to write down your thoughts.  You can’t change your thoughts if you never stop to think about them & the effect they are having on your life.

Today’s tool will reveal some pretty fascinating insights into where your thoughts are “helping” you & where they might be “hurting” you. I found this tool a couple years ago through a book club I was participating in. The man who created this tool is Dave Blanchard & he is the CEO of the Og Mandino group. (Side note: If you’ve spent much time in the world of personal development, than you’ll recognize Og’s name & know his story.  For those of you who haven’t heard of him, I highly encourage you to go HERE to read a short biography & listen to him tell his story in his own words. He was a pretty fascinating man & the most widely read inspirational and self-help author in the world today.) Dave Blanchard has taken over Og’s work & brought it into the 21st century. One of the tools he has developed is called the “Intentional Creation Assessment”. This is an excerpt from his website about how it works:

The Assessment is a revolutionary and proprietary tool that employs the formal science of axiological mathematics. It goes below the surface of personality and attitude and measures with great accuracy how people think—their habits of thinking. It clearly identifies natural strengths, which are often under utilized, and unhealthy habits of thinking that often sabotage efforts.

I know that might sound complex, but it is an amazing tool to simply & accurately understand what is going on inside your thoughts. When I took the assessment & then looked at my results, I was amazed at how accurate they were for me personally. It also helped me to step back & realize (with gratitude) that what I thought was “reality” was really just a lot of bad “thought” habits running on replay. It gave me a starting point for what I needed to work on.

Once you take the assessment, I’d love to hear what you think! Later this week, we will talk about what you can do with those results to help you improve your life. Make sure you watch the video before you take the test. You can find the video & assessment HERE.

“Change Your Thoughts, Change Your World” Summer Challenge 2015 – Truth Vs. Lies

On Monday, I told you that a focus of this challenge is to learn from our negative thoughts. In fact, if we can look at them as a gift, rather than a curse, we will realize what a blessing they are! Today’s tool is something that everyone has access to, it’s super cheap, & it’s powerful beyond words. So what is it?  It’s a piece of paper & a pen. Did you know that one of the best ways to deal with your negative thoughts is on paper & NOT in your head? In fact, your head is the worst place to deal with your negative thoughts! This quote explains why…

The mind will outsmart you. Before you are even aware of it, it will be off and running into another story to prove yourself right. The mind can justify itself faster than the speed of light. BUT it can be stopped through the act of writing. – Byron Katie

Stop & think about it. How often do you find yourself rationalizing, judging, worrying, criticizing, blaming, etc.? Your mind is on autopilot all the time. Those thoughts need a place to go. They want to be heard & dealt with, otherwise, they will continue to play out as a broken record.

So how do you deal with them?  Well, there are several variations of journaling that I’m going to introduce you to. We’ll go through them one at a time over the course of the challenge. Today’s journaling tool will help you to decipher truth from lies. A couple years ago I read this quote & it really hit home with me…

ChangeYourThoughts_2015SummerChallenge_TruthVsLies_02 It’s time to start recognizing the lies & replace them with the truth. Get out a piece of paper & write down a negative thought about yourself that has been on constant replay. Did you do it? It only takes a minute. If at all possible, do it right now because you may not get to it later. Next, you’re going to look at what you wrote & then ask yourself the following question…

- Does this thought lift me up or bring me down?

By answering this simple question, you are uncovering the truth and it’s source.  If this thought about yourself does not contribute to your life in a positive way, then you can know that it comes from Satan.

- Truth comes from our Heavenly Father.

- It gives us a good feeling & leaves us feeling uplifted.

- It encourages us to always strive for the best within us.

- It fills us with gratitude & gives us energy & hope.

- All lies come from Satan, the “Father of Lies”.

- Lies make you question your sense of self-worth.

- They drain you of your energy & make you feel hopeless.

- They make you believe you’ll never be good enough.

Now take your piece of paper & cross out the negative thought. Earlier I mentioned that we can look at these negative thoughts as “gifts” & this is why: Satan always tells us the opposite of the truth. So, in reality, he has also “gifted” you with a very important understanding of who you really are & how God sees you. For example, if Satan wants you to see yourself as worthless, it’s because he knows of your value. If he tells you things are hopeless, it’s because he knows that, with God, there is always hope.

Take the lie & turn it into truth. Write it down & put it somewhere where you can read it EVERY DAY until you no longer doubt it. Ask Heavenly Father to help you let go of this “entrenched habit of belief” & replace it with the understanding of who you really are & what you are capable of with His help.

Remember to use this tool as often as you can to catch your negative thoughts & turn them around. The more you do this, the sooner you’ll realize what an amazing person you really are!!!  I’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s post. You can either share your experience below or over on our private Facebook group.

“Change Your Thoughts, Change Your World” Summer Challenge 2015 – Let’s Begin!

As you go throughout your day, you either have thoughts that uplift you or thoughts that bring you down…there really is no neutral ground. During this challenge, we are going to do a couple of things with those thoughts…

  1. We are going to focus on tipping the scales in a positive direction, thereby naturally attracting more positive than negative thoughts into your life. Once you do this, your life will shift & you will be amazed at the results! Today’s tool will show you just how easy this is to do!
  2. We are going to learn from the negative thoughts that seem to be on constant replay in our minds. The more you try to ignore these thoughts, the stronger they become. These thoughts are there for a reason. They want to teach you something. Once you learn what they are trying to teach you, they will go away on their own. I will be giving you an amazing tool for working with these negative thoughts on Thursday.
  3. We are going to work on our relationship with God. He loves you, He knows you personally, & He’s waiting for the invitation to work miracles in your life. One of my all-time favorite quotes is from Jeffrey R. Holland…“God is anxiously waiting for the chance to answer your prayers and fulfill your dreams, just as He always has. But He can’t if you don’t pray, and He can’t if you don’t dream. In short, He can’t if you don’t believe.” Ask for your Heavenly Father’s help every day & as often as is needed throughout the day as you work on improving your thoughts.

So, what’s the plan? As I mentioned in my previous post, we will be studying five different areas throughout this challenge that will dramatically shift your thinking & change your life for the better. They are…

  1. Meaningful Prayer
  2. Personal Study Time
  3. Gratitude: Past, Present, & Future
  4. Soul Journaling
  5. Powerful Affirmation Statements
  6. Daily Humor (Did I say five? Well, I added one more today!)

I also said that during the first month of the challenge, I would be giving you “tools” to help you succeed in each of these areas. So today I want to give you your first tool…

This tool is super fun to use & makes it easier to focus on feeling gratitude throughout your day. But don’t take my word for it. Watch the video below & get ready to smile…

I love supporting people with great ideas & I think this is one of the best ideas I’ve ever come across for focusing on positive thoughts. You can visit her website HERE to watch another cute video that explains this idea even more clearly & you can purchase a clicker for super cheap HERE. Of course, if you already have one then you’re good to go! I am not an affiliate for this product, nor do I know Hillary personally, but I absolutely LOVE her outlook on life & her sense of humor cracks me up! I’m sure I’ll be linking to more of her YouTube videos throughout this challenge.

For those of you who are going to be participating in the contest part of this challenge (see details on this post), whether by yourself or on a team, you’ll need to buy a clicker as it counts towards your daily points. If you’re just following the challenge for free, I still HIGHLY recommend you get yourself a clicker if you want to get the most out of this challenge! As I said before, it makes it super easy & fun to focus on positive thinking!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on today’s post & what you think of the first tool of the challenge!  Also include: who you are, where you’re from, & why you’re joining the challenge! I can’t wait to get to know you better!
